Sausage Roll Recipe: Even Gordon Ramsay Would Approve!

Hello, busy bees! I was re-watching one of my favorite shows, Master Chef, and there’s this scene where a contestant prepares a Sausage Roll for the judges, and Gordon Ramsey just completely loses it. When it was time to serve them the dish, Gordon immediately went to judge the dish where he finishes the whole roll by himself! That made me want to make my own Sausage Roll Recipe! 🌭

Here are some hacks for this recipe! Keep the pastry cold but not frozen. Use good sausage meat, and place it in the middle of the pastry. Brush the pastry with egg for that golden color. Before baking, make a design on top. For extra flavor, sprinkle sesame or poppy seeds. Chill them before baking, and they’ll turn out perfect! ✨

These Sausage Rolls turned out to be the bomb! I pair mine with a marinara sauce, and topping it with parmesan cheese for a twist. The pastry was crispy, and the sausage inside was super tasty and seasoned just right. Overall, you’ll definitely want to have another roll!  So, give this Sausage Roll Recipe a go! Happy cooking and happy eating, busy bees! 🐝

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb ground sausage
  • 1 sheet of puff pastry (thawed)
  • 1 egg (beaten, for egg wash)
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup grated cheddar cheese
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped onions
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped bell peppers (any color you prefer)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). This gives the puff pastry a good head start.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the ground sausage, breadcrumbs, grated cheddar, onions, bell peppers, and season it with a pinch of salt and pepper. Mix until everything’s nicely combined.
  3. Lay out your thawed puff pastry sheet and cut it into four equal squares.
  4. Spoon the sausage mixture down the center of each pastry square. Be generous, but not too much to avoid overfilling.
  5. Brush one edge of each pastry square with a bit of beaten egg. This will help seal the rolls.
  6. Fold the pastry over the sausage filling, creating a long sausage roll. Press the edges together to seal. Repeat for the remaining squares.
  7. Place your sausage rolls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  8. Brush the tops of the rolls with the rest of the beaten egg. This will give them a lovely golden color.
  9. Pop them in the preheated oven and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until they’re beautifully golden and puffy.
  10. Let them cool slightly, then serve and watch them disappear in no time!
